We know a winner of tonight’s BCS Championship game!

by Walt Carvalho

There is a great opportunity tonight at the BCS Championship. Millions of people will be watching, as the two best college football teams of 2009 battle for the title of number one in the country.

Nike seems to never miss a marketing opportunity. It doesn’t matter whether the economy is thriving or in a recession. Nike is always moving forward in very creative ways.

If you happen to watch the college bowl series this year you might have noticed a visual icon in the pre-game interviews, the kick-off, on every play, re-play and even the post-game interviews. It appeared with the players, coaches, cheerleaders and sometimes even the fans in the stands.

What do you see in so many places at such an event?

You see the Nike Swoosh.

Nike understands the importance of thinking outside the box. While most companies would use only conventional means of advertising, Nike goes beyond.

They strategically placed their Nike Swoosh logo on the player’s jerseys and pants. Many players wore eye shields with the logo on them as well. The coaches had the logo displayed on their sweaters, caps and coaches shirts. The cheerleaders also wore the Swoosh logo on their clothing. Whatever you saw during the game, the Nike Swoosh was there as well.

Some of the best college players in the country this year will be seen on highlight replays, youtube videos, facebook posts and links launched by twitter. The Nike Swoosh will be there with them. Wherever those images and videos go, the Nike Swoosh will be attached to them.

There are some companies who feel that creative marketing is an expense for today.

Companies like Nike probably feel that not investing in creative marketing today is too expensive for their entire future.

Get Creative. Get Social.
