Different Page Different Time
by Walt Carvalho
I was sitting in a lobby a few days ago, fifteen minutes early for a nine thirty appointment. Unfortunately, having an early meeting was not an option.
With some time on my hands and the need to occupy my mind for fifteen minutes, I found a magazine opened on a nearby table. I reached over, picked it up and began to thumb through its pages.
As I read more, the pages seemed static. The articles had no connection to additional information. There was no discussion. No way for me to hear it from a friend. No way for me to spread the message to others. Each article and advertisement ended with me, as I turned to the next page.
Magazine pages seem different now, than they did before. Accessing stories, news content, images and product information through print media was done through magazines and newspapers. There was a time where it served its purpose well, but things have changed.
We have all moved to a different place. We are not only sitting alone in lobbies reading newspapers and magazines any more. We are now engaged in conversation together, online. We are no longer just ink and paper. We are now an active community, reading, sharing and discussing.
I couldn’t find a topic in that magazine that was less than six days old. With stories developing by the minute in our society, I couldn’t see the use of that periodical as a legitimate updated source of news. Since I do my research via instantly accessible resources, I am constantly looking for the latest reliable information I can get my hands on. I get that information online.
The relationships I’ve made through the social sites I belong too, helps to keep each of our members informed in an active way. It allows conversation. It allows families, friends and classmates to reunite. It allows information to be shared for the greater good. It allows people with great products and ideas the ability to reach other, building long lasting relationships. It brings pages to life. The pages are people talking to people.
Well, it’s time for them to see me now. It’s time to get and up put the magazine back on the table in which I found it. Into the meeting I go. I suppose that magazine will just sit there until someone else thumbs through it again.
Oh, the life of a magazine these days.
Get creative. Get social.
